Copper River School Districts mission statement is "To provide a quality education in a rural environment". In keeping with the discussion, I would modify the statement to say "To provide a quality education in a rural and online environment". This would showcase the district as a body that focuses on rural Alaska students and their connection to the online communities that they interact with.
For me, a possible digital citizenship mantra is "To treat technology no different than everything else, with understanding and skill". I believe that this shows that technology is becoming more common place every day and with every passing year, and that we should being to not treat it any differently than other skills in education.
In the discussions this week, there have been many references to having students involved in the decision making of rules and statements. I believe that there should be some student input into the discussion, but the difficulty is the decision on who will be involved. All students, just like all teachers, cannot be involved with every stuff of the discussion. There should be student representation, just like teacher representation and community representation in all parts of the decision making process. Once the decision has been made, there needs to be an annual meeting with all parties to revise or update the content.
My further question to folks is, Is there a way to keep all parties feeling involved in the decision, especially students?
